Aberrant architecture - small coal man’s tiny travelling theatre
British design firm aberrant architecture has developed ‘small coal man’s tiny travelling theatre’. the brilliantly red structure was formed from aberrant architecture’s 21st century re-conceptualization of traveling coal salesman thomas britton’s 1678 mini-entertainment building for london. ‘small coal-man’s tiny traveling theater’ has been constructed in a manner very similar to its previous incarnation— a large sound funnel distributes musical entertainment occurring on the inside to gathered crowds around the exterior of the miniature auditorium. in the time of britton’s structure, amateur performers to symphony stars such as george frideric handel were said to serenade small crowds while hidden away from view.

Design Science collaboration
“What do you get when you pair a scientific researcher with a textile designer? Designers fundamentally shape the way we live, while scientists pervade the very fabric of our lives. Nobel textiles involves a journey into the interface between science and design, a dialogue between leading researchers in both fields.”

HEAD – genève [Via]
‘inverse everything’ was a presentation of a series of projects conceived by the graduate students of haute école d’art et de design genève (HEAD - genève) which were developed during a workshop led by the UK-based studios of el utlimo grito and auger-loizeau on show during milan design week 2012.
basing their design on the life of ‘V.M.’, lanzavecchia + wai’s blanket is an everyday object, marked by events and actions which have occurred in a routine day of her life. the 220 x 150 cm quilt is woven from golden Mylar® strips which have been repeatedly hand-stamped, in chronological order of the individual names of the objects that were encountered, touched or used. in this form, a seemingly mundane fragment of life is sealed and given permanence. these words re-materialize the possessions, their related everyday gestures and rituals of a day on earth that it is impossible to repeat ever again. Artist FIONA FOLEY - QUEENSLAND STATE LIBRARY | Brisbane, QLD, Australia
Artist Fiona Foley creates a highly political yet visually engaging artwork in Black Opium. 777 cast aluminium poppies, configured in an infinity symbol, highlight the use of opium given to Aboriginal workers during white settlement. Each stem is made out of 1 of 4 moulds, hand finished and arranged randomly. The installation adorns the atrium space of Queensland’s new State Library.
The STRP mutants were designed by Bart Hess together with Heyheyhey for the 2011 STRP Art & Technology Festival campaign. The mutants evolved around the idea of transformation. They visualize movement and the ever changing boundaries between the different disciplines: art, music and technology.
