MÉDITATIONS”  & “DANS LES NUAGES

PHOTOGRAPHER LAURENCE DEMAISON

French photographer Laurence Demaison - “The photographic work of Laurence Demaison is exclusively constituted by self-portraits from 1993 to 2009. Since 2010 she occasionally uses mannequins or dolls. The used techniques – shot, development, print – are analogicals and realized by the author. No particular manipulation intervenes beyond the shot (except chemical inversion of films for some series)”.

ARTWORK BY MICHAEL REEDY

Artist Michael Reedy - "In my most recent drawings I have revisited the timeless themes of life, death, and the human condition. This new interest in the expulsion and the fall of man has been paired with my prior leanings, which have long been rooted in fringe images of the body, medical illustration, ornamentation, dark comedy, and the uncanny."

NATURAL BEAUTY BY BEN HOPPER

Personal Project by Ben Hopper (tumblr / facebook) -  ”Although armpit hair is a natural state it has become a statement.

Why is that?

For almost a century we have been brainwashed by the beauty industry, encouraging hair removal.

“Natural Beauty” could be classified as a type of protest.

By creating a contrast between common ‘fashionable’ female beauty and the raw unconventional look of female armpit hair thoughts are intrigued and a discussion is made.”

Ben Hopper is a London-based photographer, filmmaker and artist. Primarily working with dancers, circus artists and contemporary nudes.

CHINESE NEW YEAR BY IAN WEBB

(New Year’s day during the 2012 Spring festival in Shanghai and 2013 in Beijing)

Photographer Ian Webb (flickr) - Originally from the UK, now currently in Beijing where I have been since 2010. I started a serious interest in photography whilst living in France in 2008.

Photography has been a passion for several years and continues to be so, the more that I learn about this incredible genre, the more I want to learn, the principal themes of my work are :

  • Composition and light
  • Placing people within natural and urban compositions
  • Solitude
  • Spontaneity and the pure magic of bringing to life that which seems ordinary

Tumblr Artist Tiffany SinghRichard Orjis: Dreams of other worlds, 2014

Dreams Of Other Worlds is a new collaborative work by Orjis and Singh speaking of serenity and escape, focused on the pleasure of making. On show at We Are But Dust & Shadow  this work speaks of the mindfulness of repetition & is echoed in a collaboration with nature and the culture of the bees. As the work positions itself to reflect the words of D.K Suzuki from the book Into The light Of Things, ”To be satisfied with a little hut, a room of two or three tatami mats, like the log cabin of Thoreau”.

Silvia Grav | on Tumblr (b.1993, Spain)

Madrid-based photographer Silvia Grav achieves a brilliant, dreamlike aesthetic by appropriating techniques that include superimposition, multiple exposure and solarization. The outcome is a captivatingly dark, surreal exploration and study of subjective interposition. Questions are tacitly posed through her images: How does one interpret? What are the affects of dreams on the unconscious and conscious alike? How does time and thought affect memory? As a result, her photographs tend to function like condensed narrations suspended between empiricism and mental projection. (src. Juxtapoz)
